You do not often think of Windsor & Essex County Ontario as a place with style but it is and one of my favourite pages on facebook is a buying and selling page called Vintage for Sale Windsor/Essex County, Ontario. You can link to the page here. https://www.facebook.com/groups/mondevintage/
Started by Josee Guindon who also has an Etsy online vintage shop, Vintage World – Monde Vintage where she sells wonderful antiques and quirky retro items. Vintage for Sale has become the page for wonderful and unusual items that I always seem to be too slow to say “Interested”. While browsing the offerings, the pictures and posts that I linger on are the ones of the beautiful repainted furniture, never done the same way twice, and put up for sale by a talented group of woman based in Windsor, Amherstburg, Kingsville and Leamington.
These entrepreneurs are mostly home based, and are using their artistic talents and passion to start businesses, taking these sometimes, uninspiring and ugly pieces and turning them into things of beauty. This is a re-inspiration of the shabby chic trend, the painted furniture from Quebec’s Eastern Townships as well as the perennially popular, French Chateau style and 18th century Swedish painted furniture. The furniture is transformed into practical works of art; each is different because they use their own style making the individual piece unique. Not every piece is painted; some good furniture is simply repaired and rejuvenated. Some pieces will be painted while others may feature painted bottoms and tops that show their wonderful wood grains. Some also offer custom work on a piece that you already have.

Next up is Celeste Sisley who has been “re-purposing” for as long as she can remember. As a teenager Celeste remembers that her mother brought home a bed that needed some love, so Celeste stripped and stained it and has been hooked ever since. Celeste says she likes the idea of giving old pieces that people have tossed aside a fresh new look, it’s something different that will catch peoples eye. I am big on recycling so it is nice to see people being creative with less things going to the side of the road or the landfill. Celeste’s husband is a cabinet maker so if a piece needs repairing; it is first restored before the magic happens.
