I prefer cooking and entertaining with the least amount of effort and with the maximum of enjoyment, for my family and guests. So for when you have a deadline use these quick tips to decorate.

Place a paper doily or a clean plastic stencil on top of a cake and then dust with powdered sugar or cocoa powder. Lift off lightly for a beautiful finish.

Add a little flavoured syrup to a prepared whipped topping which compliments the cake.

As a topping for the cake or on the side as a garnish place, fresh fruit dipped in a some melted chocolate. This is especially good if you use your favourite chocolate bar, my current fave is strawberries dipped in Toblerone.

Nutella makes an easy glaze mixed with just a couple of teaspoons of hot water.
