How Cute is This? Basket + Scarf = Tote

How Cute is This? Basket + Scarf = Tote
How Cute is This? Basket + Scarf = Tote

Steal this idea to make a super quick tote for the warmer weather. Simply take a basket and a big enough scarf to fit around the basket. Knot at the corners and you are done. Simply change scarves or you can use a pretty piece of material to switch it up. For a more permanent solution, you can tack or use a couple of safety pins to secure the loose sides to look more finished.

An Oldie but a Goody – Focaccia, Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar

Focaccia, Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar
Focaccia, Olive Oil & Balsamic Vinegar
We dined out at an Italian restaurant last night and was served some nice bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, add the oil to the plate, drop some vinegar on top and swirl, very pretty and tasty, just tear pieces of bread and dunk. Nice with a drink to start your meal. You can also use any favourite dips and oils that are languishing in the cupboards.

Placed on either side of a chest of drawers in a bedroom these foldaway bridge chairs were in need of new seats, covers, and some TLC. They will come in handy when extra seating is needed around the dining table or as a desk chair.

I do renovate, rejuvenate and update things all the time, so I did have the stain, wood, wadding, upholstery fabric and my trusty staple gun so this was a quick and easy project.

Here is the before, during and after.

5 Minute Makeovers – The Laundry Basket Made Over

Laundry Basket Makeover in Windsor Ontario
Laundry Basket Makeover

It is hard to find an attractive & functional laundry basket so when the basketwork started to break down, I simply added some fabric that was on hand that co-ordinated with both the paint and the trim on the basket. Cut to size, folded over neatly to hem and then stapled, this makeover took only 5 minutes.  I love the fabric and so was happy to use it.

My daughter thought this brilliant and said to share. Use a wooden spoon to separate two-piece baking pans. The cake will be intact and you will not burn yourself.

Real Easy Food – Thanksgiving Day Feast – What to do with the leftover turkey

Before baking

The most popular choice in my house is the turkey pot pie, I buy the ready-made puff pastry, my favourite in Canada is President’s Choice puff pastry, as it is made with butter.
Here are a couple of ways to serve it.
Once you have portioned up the remainder of the turkey take the amount wanted for your pie.

TURKEY & MUSHROOM POT PIE WITH A BECHAMEL SAUCE

BUTTER A PIE DISH.
ADD TURKEY CUT IN SMALL BITE SIZE PIECES.
ADD MUSHROOMS.
ADD ANY ADDITIONAL VEGETABLES SUCH AS PEAS
MAKE A BECHAMEL SAUCE USING BUTTER, FLOUR, & MILK.
ADD TO THE TURKEY AND MUSHROOM MIXTURE AND STIR TO COAT
ADD AN EGG CUP OR TWO TO SUPPORT PASTRY.
UNTIL NEEDED – ROLL OUT PUFF PASTRY.  LAYOVER PASTRY ON TOP OF MIXTURE & SLASH PASTRY IN A COUPLE OF PLACES TO LET STEAM ESCAPE.

No time – instead of making a bechamel sauce, just add a tin (or two) of chicken, mushroom or celery soup instead.
COOK ACCORDING TO PUFF PASTRY INSTRUCTIONS USUALLY 425%
Serve with salad or a vegetable.
No puff pastry – heat the turkey mixture through and serve over rice.

If you do not want to take curtains down when cleaning windows, simply loop the curtains through a clothes hanger and hang at the end of the curtain rod to avoid removing curtains while cleaning windows.

Style Organization Updates Cushions for Good Looks and Comfort

Some of my clients have reached the age where they need some extra support with a cushion in the small of their backs for a little extra comfort. I am refreshing the cushions with some favourite fabric pieces. Just add a throw for when the weather becomes cooler and you have the perfect spot for reading, knitting, and watching tv.
